ITO Wagami

ITO Wagami is a linen based tape yarn, surprisingly soft and extremely light. Wagami has been designed to be combined with all other ITO qualities. The garment gets volume without weight due to the 1 cm / 1/2″ wide, wafer-thin paper strip which has been slightly folded. It is beautiful in combination with Gima, Kinu, Niji, Shio or Tsuchi. Wagami can be used alone for single or multi-stranded projects as well.

Composition: 100% Paper.

Tips: Wagami can be used alone single- or multi-stranded. We recommend to combine it with other ITO yarns, because it breaks easily under pressure.

ITO Tetsu

ITO Tetsu brings together silk and metal. A stainless steel filament twisted with mulberry silk adds “memory” to the knitted fabric: it can be shaped and formed. ITO Tetsu invites experimentation.

Tetsu composition: 61% Silk, 39% stainless steel

ITO Asa

ITO Asa is a very fine and precious linen yarn, refined with silk and cotton.

Asa composition: 72% Linen, 18% Cotton, 10% Silk

ITO Washi

ITO Washi follows the tradition of noble Japanese paper yarns with an extremely silky softness. The yarn has a good stitch definition and therefore also shows lace patterns nicely. The paper is twisted with a rayon thread which gives the necessary stability to garments and accessories. Washi is washable. We recommend handwash.

Washi composition: 54% Paper, 46% Viscose

Tip: Paper yarns have a lasting tradition in Japan. They are often compared to silk in their noble character and have similar properties to silk: Cooling in summer and warming in winter. Washi can be used single stranded lightweight summer garments. For shirts and jackets we recommend to use Washi double stranded or in combination with Asa.

ITO Tategami

ITO Tategami is an unusual yarn made of linen-based paper with a cotton core. The yarn is produced by way of a special chenille yarn process. The result surprises with a unique structure, a soft touch, airiness, and volume. ITO Tategami is great for summer garments or special details and is pleasant to wear.

Tatagami composition: 65% Paper, 35% Cotton

ITO Kinu Kasuri

ITO Kinu Kasuri is a space dyed silk yarn, with a nice lustre.

Kinu Kasuri composition: 100% Silk

ITO Shimo

ITO Shimo is a woolen spun yarn that is produced on an old mule spinning system. Mule spun yarns are very high quality woolen yarns. This yarn is a delicate mix of our recycled silk ITO Kinu mixed with a fine 19.5 micron lambswool. The fibres are mixed before carding thus producing a mélange effect. ITO Shimo is scoured after spinning and will bloom even more with washing.

Shimo composition: 80% Wool, 20% Silk

ITO Serishin

ITO Serishin is a luxurious silk yarn with tremendous sheen. Its unique structure comes from single silk filaments laid flat to forma a band, somewhat reminiscent of raffia bast. It creates a soft and fluid fabric with incredible drape.

Serishin composition: 100% Silk
