Emerging from the pandemic…

Wow, what a ride these last 2 years have been!

I remember way back in March of 2020, when whisper of this illness was spreading and heading off to the Lost Trades Fair, joking with my husband that I will have a hard time not hugging everyone like I normally do at the festival when they come to visit my stall.

I didn’t realise it would be the last event, that we juuuust managed to scrape in, before the World shut down. And how removed we would all be from each other.

It’s been a crazy struggle trying to run my weaving studio business with no workshops, no Retreats, at times no stock able to arrive from Japan…and I actually wondered if I would have a business in the end.

But the need for mindful creativity, for people to be able to immerse themselves in craft and forget the troubles of the world, their isolation or their sadness has been so strong throughout. I feel lucky that I was able to assist people in achieveing that, in getting them looms to weave upon, in teaching classes and SAORI Social Sessions online. To creating and strengthening my community through Dyeing To Weave.

There are many things that were horrible about the pandemic, but there was also some sunshine in how it re-engaged me with my students, customers, caused me to pivot in directions I had considered but never put time into.

Always looking for that silver lining….
